“The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Krauze, has tried to raise this issue in the Council of Ministers of Agriculture in the European Union, but it must be said that the opinion of most member states has not changed on this issue,” said Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission, in the TV24 program “Special Edition”.

Regarding the ban on the import of Russian grain and food products, Dombrovskis reminds that “such discussions have taken place in the European Union since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, and already at that time a decision was made not to impose sanctions on Russian food products, including in view of global food prices and food supplies security in the so-called global south.”

“The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Krauze, has tried to bring up this issue in the Council of Ministers of Agriculture in the European Union, but it must be said that the opinion of most member states has not changed on this issue. Therefore, the issue of not feeding the Russian propaganda narrative, which tries to blame directly Western sanctions in the fact that food prices increased in 2022,” Dombrovskis explains, adding that it would be difficult to predict an agreement on a transit ban that applies to third countries, including Russia.
