A well-known lawyer was found dead at his residence; the police have started criminal proceedings

Sworn lawyer Alvis Marga died on Tuesday, according to a statement on the website of the Latvian Sworn Lawyers Association.

The college expresses its deepest condolences to Marga’s relatives and friends.

The Public Relations Department of the State Police confirmed to the LETA agency that on May 23, the police received information about a dead person at his place of residence in Gauja.

Police officers arrived at the scene and found the man’s body.

The initial information available to the police does not indicate that a criminal offense was committed against the man, but expert examinations have been carried out to find out the exact cause of death.

The website of the law firm “Bērziņš, Marga und Vīnkalns” states that Marga was admitted to the Latvian Bar Association in the 1990s.

In 1999, Marga, in cooperation with sworn lawyers Ainārs Vīnkalnas and Aivaras Bērziņš, established the sworn law office “Bērziņš, Marga und Vīnkalns”.

On January 13, 2003, Marga obtained an insolvency administrator’s certificate in parallel with her duties as a sworn attorney.

While performing the duties of an insolvency administrator, Marga has successfully ensured the bankruptcy procedure of the largest meat processing company in the Baltic States, “Triāls”.

In addition to fulfilling the duties of a sworn lawyer and a certified insolvency administrator, Marga was an active arbitrator of the Riga Arbitration Court. In 2013, by the decision of the chairman of the Riga Arbitration Court, Marga was awarded the title of honorary judge of the Riga Arbitration Court.

His areas of activity have been representation in courts in civil and administrative cases, defense in criminal cases, legal services for all types of transactions with real estate, mergers and divisions of companies, construction law, banking and financial law, insurance law and human rights.

The archive of the LETA agency shows that Marga, for example, was once a defender of the former chairman of the board of the “Latvijas Dzelzceļš” company Uģis Magonis, who was accused of bribery, and Didzis Jonovas, the former trustee of the Latvian State Radio and Television Center, who was accused in the so-called digital television case.
