Last week, the State Police received information about a person in Jelgava who is transporting a large amount of narcotics in his car. Law enforcement stopped the car reported by the man and found nothing inside. It has been established that the man deliberately lied to the police in order to cause trouble and anxiety for his ex-girlfriend, but as a result caused trouble only for himself. The State Police has initiated an administrative violation process against the man.

On January 17, a letter was received on the social website of the State Police “Facebook”, in which the man informed about the car “Audi”, which will go to Jelgava at a certain time in the evening of the mentioned day, and in which there will be a large amount of narcotic substances with the aim of selling them. At the end of the letter, the man requests the law enforcement officers to check this car.

Officials of the Criminal Police Office of the Zemgale Regional Administration of the State Police, in cooperation with the officials of the Reaction Department of the South Zemgale Precinct of the Zemgale Regional Administration of the State Police, stopped the “Audi” car in Jelgava, at the intersection of Miera and Bauskas streets. The car was driven by a woman who voluntarily showed the contents of the interior and trunk, and no prohibited substances were found in the car. Law enforcement officers specified who she thought would play such a prank on her, to which the woman indicated her ex-boyfriend. The information matched the informant who provided false information to law enforcement officers.

Officials of the State Police went to the man, who informed the police about the circulation of narcotic substances and found out that the man had a conflict with the woman and that he had given such a report with the aim of causing problems for his ex-girlfriend. The man explains that he is aware that he committed an offense and also regrets what he did.

Officials of the South Zemgale precinct of the Zemgale regional administration of the State Police started an administrative violation process for the dissemination of information about a false event, due to which the police, in accordance with the duty stipulated in the regulatory acts, is involved in responding to such information. A fine from 35 to 210 euros is applied for such an administrative violation.

The State Police reminds that unjustified calling of special services is a punishable act. Perhaps the moment emergency services are diverted to such bogus calls, their help is needed elsewhere.

At the same time, the State Police thanks the citizens who inform about such violations – the circulation of illegal cigarettes, alcohol, narcotic psychotropic substances. Citizens can also report if they only suspect that illegal traffic is taking place in or outside the cities, pointing to specific individuals. The case described above differs in that the man intentionally provided false information. We remind you that you can report by phone 110as well as by calling the State Police hotline 67075444 (this is an autoresponder, so the information must be precisely defined), or by writing to an e-mail [email protected].
